Manhattan is the place most people think of when they attempt to visualize New York. Considered the cultural and financial center of the city, Manhattan hosts numerous landmarks, tourist attractions, museums and universities. Residents of the four other boroughs often refer to it simply as "The City", and it is often felt that most of what's happening in NYC is probably happening within the Manhattan.

Kindred living within the city also find it to be the epicenter of a great deal of their nightly transactions. Many ambitious Cainites attempt to hold as much influence and domain as possible within the borough, and many of the fledging Princes who have laid claim over New York have established their Elysia here.

Map Manhattan Place of Interest

A. Central Park: Designed by Frederick Law Olmsted and Calvert Vaux (also responsible for Brooklyn's Prospect Park), Central Park is one of the most famous public parks in the world today. While much of the park looks natural, it is in fact almost entirely landscaped and contains several artificial lakes, extensive walking tracks, two ice-skating rinks, a wildlife sanctuary, and grassy areas used for various sporting pursuits, as well as playgrounds for children.

Cainites in the city have long been wary of the locale, due to rumors of lycanthropic activity. No werewolves, however, have been sighted in the park for some time.

B. Madison Square Garden: A complex housing four arenas, MSG hosts over 320 events each year. It is best known as the home of the New York Rangers of the NHL and the New York Knicks of the NB.

Unfortunately for the Knicks, it is also known for being cursed. On at least two occasions at a Knicks game, the complex has been attacked by strange means, killing several onlookers in the process. The first incident took place in October of 2002, in which one player was seen being attacked by some sort of hideous "monster" which could not be identified. The second in March of 2006, was an attack upon an entire stadium, causing structural collapse, a large number of casualties, and the death of film maker Spike Lee, who happened to be in the audience. While officials claimed the later incident was a terrorist attack, several witnesses report seeing monsters similar to those in 2002.

Most of Cainite society realize that the two events described above were perpetrated by the New York Sabbat. Some speculate that this is due to the areas ongoing status as Elysium, as established by Calebros after the battle of New York. The Nosferatu interim Prince originally declared only a small conference box to be Elysium, but later expanded it to cover the whole Garden in 2000. In these nights, however, nobody holds court there, and the area is largely of symbolic importance.

C. Times Square: Times Square, centering on 42nd Street and Broadway, is named after the former headquarters of The New York Times. It consists of the blocks between 6th and 9th Avenues from east to west and 39th and 52nd Streets from south to north and makes up the western part of the commercial area of Midtown Manhattan. The theaters of Broadway and the huge number of gaudy animated neon and television-style signage have long made it one of New York's iconic images, and a symbol of the intensely urban aspects of Manhattan.

D. Grand Central Terminal: Grand Central Terminal (often still called Grand Central Station) is a terminal rail station at 15 Vanderbilt Avenue. Built by the New York Central Railroad (for which it was named) in the heyday of American long-distance passenger trains, it is the largest train station in the world by number of platforms. Although it has been properly called "Grand Central Terminal" for a century, many people continue to refer to it as "Grand Central Station". Technically, that is the name of the nearby post office and major IRT Lexington Avenue Line station of the New York City Subway, as well as the name of a previous station on the site.

E. NYU University: New York University (NYU) is a major research university in New York City. Its primary campus is in the Greenwich Village neighborhood of Manhattan. Founded in 1831 by Albert Gallatin and a group of prominent New Yorkers, NYU has become the largest private, not-for-profit university in the United States. The University comprises 14 schools, colleges, and divisions, which occupy six major centers across Manhattan. NYU also has its own facilities in London, Paris, Prague, Berlin, Ghana, Madrid and Shanghai.

F. Columbia Univeristy (not shown) Columbia University is a private university whose main campus lies in the Morningside Heights neighborhood of the Borough of Manhattan in New York City. It is one of the eight Ivy League universities, established in 1754 as King's College. The university has numerous graduate schools, the most notable of which include the Columbia Business School, the Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons, the Graduate School of Journalism, the School of International and Public Affairs, the Graduate School of Architecture, Planning and Preservation, the Columbia Law School and the School of Continuing Education. The university is affiliated with Barnard College (an undergraduate liberal arts college for women and one of the Seven Sisters), Teachers College, Jewish Theological Seminary and Union Theological Seminary.

It is Barnard, in fact, which housed the "Maupassant Room", the central hub of the Tremere's Chantry of the Five Boroughs, and the only publicly known Chantry in the area - or rather it did, until the winter of 2006, when the area was raided by police following the mysterious murder of a young grad student. The Chantry of the Five Borroughs has since been given up for lost - much to the chagrin of the Warlock's hierarchy.

G. Time Warner Center: Time Warner Center, originally constructed as the AOL Time Warner Center, is a mixed-use skyscraper at Columbus Circle in Midtown Manhattan. Its design, by David Childs and Mustafa Kemal Abadan of Skidmore, Owings & Merrill, consists of two towers of 750 ft each. The total floor area is divided between offices, residential condominiums, and the Mandarin Oriental hotel. Time Warner Inc. has taken office space in the lower floors below the main towers. The Shops at Columbus Circle is an upscale shopping mall on the lower level of Time Warner Center, which also includes a collection of luxury restaurants on its uppermost floor.

To the Kindred populace, the building was long known as the Elysium of Prince Hadrian Evans, who chose the location after abandoning the increasingly insecure houseboat the Chapel Perilous which had been chosen for the purpose of Elysium prior. The building, in spite of boasting a complex security system, suffered at least one notable attack in the form of a Sabbat run SWAT raid in May 2005, although over all it was considered a relatively safe meeting place.

After Evans' loss of the princeship to Darren West in 2006, the Time Warner Center was abandoned as a primary site for Elysium. It currently houses the Kuei-Jin embassy from New Jersey, consisting of Ambassodor Hoshimi, his aide Theodore Malkin, and the enigmatic Reiko Gantestu.

H. The Cloisters (not shown): The Cloisters is a branch of the Metropolitan Museum of Art dedicated to medieval art and architecture. Located in Fort Tryon Park, the gallery includes many famous exhibits, such as the Cluny unicorn tapestries and the Cloister's Cross.

The basement of the museum, however, includes some exhibits of a more interesting nature, according to rumor. It is generally known to have been the domain of the Nosferatu at one point and many stories indicate that something of great importance to the Clan is housed there.

I. St. Patrick's Cathedral: St. Patrick's Cathedral is the largest decorated gothic-style Catholic Cathedral in the United States. It is the seat of the archbishop of the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of New York, and a parish church, located at 50th Street and Fifth Avenue in Manhattan, just across the street from Rockefeller Center.

In March 2006, the Cathedral was, according to some sources the place of a communal vision in which an apparition of the holy virgin Mary appeared before the congregation and was subsequently raped by an apparition of the devil. This was later publically denied by the diocese.

J. Chelsea Hotel: The Hotel Chelsea is a well-known residence for artists, musicians, and writers in the neighborhood of Chelsea in Manhattan, New York City. The building is located on 23rd Street between Seventh and Eighth Avenues. The hotel welcomes guests, but is primarily known for its long-term residents, past and present. The hotel has always been a center of artistic and bohemian activity and it houses artwork created by many of the artists who have visited. The hotel was the first building to be listed by New York City as a cultural preservation site and historic building of note.

For some time, the building was utilized as a sort of audience hall by Prince Svetlana Ivannova Karamazova where she would take petitions in her private quarters.

K. 7th Street Squat: A community of squatters who make their home in Lower East Side Manhattan, the residents of the 7th Street Squat would seem to be of little import to the affairs of nightly Kindred politics, and in fact few active vampires in the region pay this area much mind. However, there has recently been reports of growing cultic activity in region, which leads some to suspect Setite involvement.
